In a ceremony held by videoconference on 12/17/2020, the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, thanked all partners of the Program to Tackle Disinformation with a Focus on the 2020 Elections for their contribution and announced the expansion of efforts to tackle misleading news disseminated by social media.

The president of the Electoral Court praised the work of the collaborators and attributed the success of the election held in November to cooperation between the institutions that make up the project.

The preliminary assessment is that we came out victorious in this battle. Although it is not possible to put an end to the dissemination of disinformation, we believe that it was possible to greatly reduce its impact in the course of the election. In general, the population had access to truthful and quality information about the electoral process, allowing them to consciously exercise their right to vote”, he said.

By officially transforming the Program to Tackle Disinformation with a Focus on the 2020 Elections into a permanent initiative, the minister reinforced that the main tactic of the Court is to face false news with quick information, without intervening in the democratic debate. “We are fundamentally committed to non-regulatory strategies and actors present here, who have pledged to implement concrete actions to mitigate the negative effect produced by disinformation in the electoral process”, observed the president of the Court.
