Votacao.jpg

Elections take place every two years, in even years, alternating between municipal and general elections. They always take place on the first Sunday of the month of October and, if there is a second round, on the last Sunday of the same month.

  • General election – Held throughout the country for the positions of president and vice president of the Republic, and, in each state, for governor and vice-governor, senator, federal and state deputy (in the Federal District, for district deputy).

  • Municipal election – Held in each municipality for the positions of mayor, deputy mayor and councilor.

  • Supplementary election – Carried out only in sections whose voters have been prevented from voting (such as in the event of a flood, on polling day), or whose votes have been annulled (by court decision). Thus, affected voters have a new opportunity to exercise their right to vote.

Health Security Plan

Due to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and in compliance with the Health Security Plan prepared by the TSE in partnership with the Ministry of Health (Fiocruz) and the Albert Einstein and Sírio-Libanês hospitals, there was no biometric identification of the electorate in the 2020 elections.
